Malaria-Free Safaris

Pumba

Many foreign travellers, in particular, are extremely concerned about malaria when they plan bush or safari holidays in Africa, and justifiably so because the infection rate on the continent is extremely high.
According to Roll Back Malaria there more than 200 million cases of malaria in Africa annually, although the rate in South Africa is minute by comparison – fewer than 8 000 cases per year.

This makes South Africa the ideal bush destination but many people, parents in particular, don’t want to play even those low odds and will choose Big Five family holidays in areas that are certified malaria-free such as the Eastern Cape.
Conservation areas such as the African Pride Pumba Private Game Reserve in the heart of the Eastern Cape offer bush holiday perfection; an ultra-luxurious hideaway surrounded by pristine natural vegetation and myriad wildlife.

It has also been home to a flourishing pride of White Lions since 2006. The white lion rehabilitation project is one of Pumba’s key biodiversity projects, and attracts many interested guests from different parts of the world.
At more than 6 000 hectares, African Pride Pumba Private Game Reserve is the third largest privately owned Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, covering 5 of the 7 South African Vegetation Biomes. The Lodge is situated on Cariega Lake, offering stunning views from every cottage.
It offers Big Five day safaris or 3-hour game drives with meals and drinks. There are 22 other species of animals in the reserve, as well as 270 species of birds.

African Pride Pumba Private Game Reserve comprises luxurious Five Star accommodation at one of two enchanting lodges. Each idyllic chalet is totally private and complete with their own pools framed by timber decks and outdoor showers. Every chalet is designed and decorated using individual and natural fabrics - picking up on a different aspects of African nature and wildlife.

GUESTS can enjoy an array of gourmet safari cuisine and on site there is additional pampering for the mind, body, and soul, at the Msenge Bush Lodge's Soul Spa. The lodge also contains a fully equipped gym surrounded by glass, and extending out beneath a cathedral of trees.
Families wanting to explore the area can visit the historic university city of Grahamstown, the Addo Elephant Park and the beautiful coastal town of Port Alfred.
